Last night, Max Mara kicked off the one-year anniversary of The Whitney Museum’s new building and the launch of the Whitney Bag Anniversary Edition with an intimate dinner of 70 guests, including artists and supporters.
The evening was inspired by an illustration of the museum’s founder Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney wearing a custom dress designed by Léon Bakst. The anniversary edition bag combines Gertrude’s impeccable style in combination with Max Mara’s craftsmanship.
While the original Whitney handbag was designed in collaboration with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, this year’s edition is re-imagined with floral motifs, similar to that found on the Bakst dress.
Notable guests included the fashion house’s chairman Luigi Maramotti, Amy Adams, Deeda Blair, and William Wegman.
