Rockaway!

Katharina Grosse at Rockaway!

No contributor

A fun, summery, site-specific outdoor installation from MoMA PS1 is definitely not hard and not far to reach. Rockaway! at Fort Tilden aims to embody the beloved sunset seen over the crashing waves on a sandy beach.

The installation was created by Katharina Grosse and reflects those bold sunset colors as she transformed the beach’s run-down aquatics building into brilliant art. Grosse utilized the singularity in painting and used spray paint with her practice, creating an image that moves within a 360-degree perspective.

This installation memorializes the building, a survivor of Hurricane Sandy in 2013 that will be demolished later this year. It resembles the last burst of light before the sun goes down. The installation will remain through November 2016, so definitely hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach this summer!
