Donald Robertson Mixes Art, Fashion, and Flavor in his Signature Kitchen Suite

No contributor

Signature Kitchen Suite, a high-end appliance brand, launched early this year. For the discerning home-owner, Signature Kitchen Suite encourages clients to project their own personal style in their culinary corner.

The built-in appliance company recently collaborated with artist and fashion world favorite Donald Robertson to express his unique sensibility in a design that features wi-fi ovens, fast-heating stovetops, intelligent refrigerators, and more. Whitewall spoke to Robertson about his dream studio kitchen setup.

WHITEWALL: You are well-known for your illustrations of celebrities, fashion, and Pop art. What prompted your collaboration with Signature Kitchen Suite?

DONALD ROBERTSON: When Signature Kitchen Suite approached me to collaborate with them as a Brand Advocate, I immediately jumped at the opportunity as it is a very organic partnership based on a shared passion for design and style. My artwork not only culls from a deep understanding of color and fashion, but it comes from a very personal place. The kitchen is also a personal place, where you are free to explore your creativity through food, and—like art—play to people’s senses.

WW: Signature Kitchen Suite allows individuals to combine their personal style with high-end appliances. How would you describe your personal style?

DR: I would describe my personal style as “wannabe.” As in I “wanna be” living as large as painter Julian Schnabel or John Currin. I love their aesthetics, their homes and their art.

WW: How did that manifest in the signature kitchen?

DR: For Signature Kitchen Suite’s international launch, I created a fashion illustration inspired by the design and creativity behind the brand, bringing to life a sense of refinement and premium elegance. By blending fashion, luxury, color, and a passion for the culinary world, this painting is intended to show consumers that they too can realize their kitchen design in ways they never thought imaginable. The Signature Kitchen Suite appliances are the perfect canvas to infuse personal style for a stunning, extraordinary kitchen experience.

WW: What role does the kitchen play in your own home—is it a place where you spend a lot of time?

DR: I spend a lot of time in my studio, which naturally lends itself to my eating a lot of meals in my studio, as well. Right now I just have a small kitchenette in there, but my dream is to have a Signature Kitchen Suite kitchen so I don’t have to be a prisoner to my oven when I’m trying to work. They have this amazing wi-fi program and app that allows you to keep an eye on what you’re cooking and adjust temps/times as necessary. It’s really convenient!

WW: What are you working on next?

DR: I am working on finishing my new studio in Montecito. It’s a giant space where I can scale up my work. I’m very excited. It’s almost ready to splatter with paint!
