How thrilling to be debuting our first-ever Whitewaller Milan at Salone del Mobile this year. This is by far the biggest annual event for design in the world, and we couldn’t be more excited to be here. We are equally ecstatic to have Beatrice Trussardi—a veritable force in the cultural community of Milan—acting as our guest editor for the issue.
The entire city seems to come alive for Salone, with museums, galleries, and even fashion flagships taking part in the occasion. And with miart the week prior and NOMAD Monaco the following week, the month of April is fairly packed with contemporary art and design. Whitewaller Milan is here to cover it all.
In our “Up Close” features section, we speak with miart’s director, Alessandro Rabottini; Salone del Mobile’s Claudio Luti; Amira Gad, the curator behind the stunning Torbjørn Rødland show at Fondazione Prada; the Milan-based designer and artist Gianluca Pacchione; the Pirelli HangarBicocca’s Roberta Tenconi; the Triennale Design Museum’s Silvana Annicchiarico; and the founders behind the invitation-only fair NOMAD, now in its second year in Monaco.
With so much to do and see around the city, we have an amazing group of Insiders to share how they enjoy Milan: Bruna Roccasalva, Carolina Lanfranchi, Edoardo Bonaspetti, Gildakoral Flora, Giò Marconi, Giuseppe Iannaccone, Maria Cristina Didero, and Nicoletta Rusconi.
In addition to the main fairs, there are exhibitions going on at private collections, institutions, and galleries that are not to be missed, along with special installations and events from brands like FLOS,
Valextra, Swarovski, Cartier, Hermès, Google, and more. And if you find the time in between, refer to our lifestyle listings and “Whitewaller recommends” notes for where to eat, relax, shop, and stay. It’s the best time of the year to be in Milan, so let’s get started!
