Last week in Florence, fashion enthusiasts from around the world gathered together to preview the newest debuts in menswear during Pitti Uomo. Presenting its Spring/Summer 2020 collection, Z Zegna renewed its commitment to creating a more sustainable world with a series of responsibly-created designs, and an installation reminding us of the importance of a conscious lifestyle.
For the presentation, artistic director Alessandro Sartori embraced the concept of desertification not only as an environmental challenge we face today, but also in a literal sense. An infinity room was installed at Fortezza da Basso’s Teatrino Lorenese, complete with video projections to immerse viewers into a mystic desert land, where the real and virtual became one, foreshadowing the consequences of neglecting our responsibilities to the Earth.
The brand used upcycled and recycled fibers to construct elevated and stylish garments. Z Zegna also returned with new developments to its TECHMERINO™ WASH&GO crease-free wool, which was presented in colors like rust, indigo, off-white, and neutrals reminiscent of a desert sunset.
The leisurely, sporty silhouettes were subtly merged with classic men’s styles, invoking ideas of a contemporary—and considerably more sophisticated—Aladdin. Relaxed blazers were presented with nonchalantly-rolled sleeves and paired with unstructured takes on traditional trousers, reminiscent of jogger pants. Made with the metropolitan explorer in mind, styles like a sleeveless knit sweater and a printed bomber jacket were made to be easily transitional between urban adventures and everyday life, alike.
Standout pieces included the muted emerald pants and jacket pairing, the goggle-like glasses, and the updated A-MAZE sneakers, which have been juxtaposed to chunky, utilitarian sandals.
