On February 6, Dior and Sasha Pivovarova hosted a party celebrating the launch of the Dior’s Spring/Summer 2018 women’s ready-to- wear collection, designed by Artistic Director Maria Grazia Chiuri. Guests were invited to explore artworks and illustrations by Pivovarova, the face of the Spring/Summer 2018 campaign, and an ongoing collaborator of the house.
The collection was inspired by images of Niki de Saint Phalle, a pioneering French-American sculptor. With a further focus on women in the arts, Pivovarova wore a shirt that read “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?” (referencing Linda Nochlin’s 1971 essay) to open the runway show last fall.
At the cocktail party this week at 14 th Street Garage in New York, Pivovarova created a floor to ceiling installation, Life Session, featuring portraits of women. Enjoying champagne, hors d’oeuvres, and music by Venus X were guests like Margaret Qually, Sophie Auster, Olivia Culpo, Venus X, Leigh Lezark, Mia Moretti, Alexandra Richards, Coco & Breezy, Phoebe
Collings-James, Aurora James, Heron Preston, Michael Avedon, and Matthew Henson.
