A Look Back at Art Basel Miami Beach 2015 Week

No contributor

While the weather was stormy and sometimes simply awful, there were many highlights and happy moments last week in Miami for me. Some new players made a big impact and some continued the incredible journey they started a few years ago.

First, Design Miami/ made for a great show with the return of top galleries showcasing interior design and furniture, and with the launch of new projects like Robbie Antonio‘s Art Pavilion series. I also wanted to congratulate Yves Béhar on receiving the fair’s presitigious Design Visionary Award.

Art Basel Miami Beach was once again a great gathering of the best galleries showing their best works to sell to their best clients in the last moments before the new year. All were there to celebrate an incredible year in the contemporary art world.

I also want to salute the launch of the No Commission art fair by Swizz Beatz, who created a new way for artists to interact with art fairs goers and made a big splash with this first edition (to be followed). Larry Gagosian and Jeffrey Deitch partnered on a massive exhibit, “Unrealism,” organized in the magnificent Moore building in the Design District.

As for events, we were lucky to organize a wide variety, from the intimate and amazing Instagram talk with Swizz Beatz, Simon de Pury, and Daniel Arsham, to the mega party with Babel at The Edition. We were thrilled with our Insiders party at the Faena penthouse with Perrier-Jouët, and the screening of JR‘s film featuring Robert DeNiro, “Ellis.” We also organized a lively talk between two long-time friends and partners, Patrizia Moroso and Patricia Urquiola. And we partnered with The MoMA Design Store, The Delano, and The Andy Warhol Foundation on the Skateroom cocktail event.

I was happy to have called Perrier-Jouët‘s L’Eden home, a pop-up enchanted space located in the penthouse of the new  Faena hotel.

Once again this year, despite everything that happened (from the stabbing to the storms), it was a great reunion of art lovers and influencers who decided to celebrate their shared interest and passion for this unique world.

We are already thinking of the next edition and promising you even more great surprises!
