A Toast to Suite 5000
Last week, an intimate gathering of artists, gallerists, curators, and patrons came together at the Mandarin Oriental, New York‘s Suite 5000. They were there to celebrate the second, in-room contemporary art exhibition, curated by Eiman Aziz in partnership with Whitewall. Toasting to the show last week was Aziz along with artist Rachel Lee Hovnanian, gallerist Eric Firestone, artist Mia Fonssagrives-Solow, artist Evie Falci, gallerist Eric Allouche, and dozens of others.
Starting in the summer of 2013, each year a new exhibition is installed throughout the presidential rooms, giving guests a unique opportunity to live with and learn about artists from the city that never sleeps. For the 2014 to ’15 group of work (up through October), Whitewall asked Art Beyond’s Aziz to use her knowledgeable eye and diverse network to cull pieces from Steven Naifeh, Lee Hovnanian, Tseng Kwong Chi, Fonssagrives-Solow, Dustin Yellin, Falci, Andrew Levitas, and Richard Hudson. Along side the art is an interactive iPad app to give guests an opportunity to learn more about the artists, their work, and representative galleries like Leila Heller Gallery, Gallery Valentine, Eric Firestone Gallery, and Allouche Gallery.
Whitewall’s spring 2015 Art Issue, out next week, includes a feature story on the latest curation of Suite 5000.
