Friday Fête: The Standard Opens in London, Gucci Launches the Zumi Bag, and More

For this week’s Friday Fête, Whitewall takes you through some of this week’s events, including celebrations with The Standard, Gucci, The Macallan, and more.

Last Friday, September 13, The Standard, London celebrated its grand opening in the midst of London Fashion Week with an exclusive party and much-anticipated reveal of the hotel’s tenth floor. There, guests like Emma Stone, Lily Allen, Mark Ronson, and Anais Gallagher made their way to the top via the exterior “red pill” elevator, where they caught a glimpse of the stunning London skyline through floor-to-ceiling windows and enjoyed interiors by Shawn Hausman. Once upstairs, partygoers enjoyed a lively evening featuring curated music (including performances by Q-Tip, Slick Rick, and Giggs), glasses of Ruinart rosé and Casamigos cocktails, and a preview of the delicious fare to come from Decimo—the hotel’s rooftop restaurant by Chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias.

Tuesday at Gitano in New York, Assouline celebrated the launch of its new book, Tulum Gypset, by Julia Chaplin. In honor of the location’s bohemian lifestyle, the night featured a tropical theme hidden within the lush greenery of the garden. Kicking off the event, guests were asked to participate in a sound bath mediation session led by Abigail K. Devine to replicate the peaceful atmosphere of Tulum, followed by cocktails from Montbelobos, mini tarot readings, and a book signing with Chaplin.

Also on Tuesday, but across the river in Brooklyn, the Wythe Hotel hosted a night of music at its rooftop bar, Lemon. To close out its summer music series curated by IAMSOUND, Queens-based songwriter Grace Ives performance an intimate set. Guests enjoyed drinks and snacks from the bar during Ives’ set of atmospheric synth-pop, while dancing just feet away from the stage.

On Wednesday night, at Gucci’s 5th Avenue flagship, the brand launched its new Zumi bag—named after Los Angeles-based actress and musician, Zumi Rosow. Guests in attendance (including Olimpia Dior, Adam Eli, Arden Wohl, and Alaska Lynch) enjoyed a private evening of cocktails, small bites, poetry by Lynch, and a DJ set by Rosow.

And today we’ll be checking out “The Macallan Whisky & Color Experience”—an exhibition downtown at The Oculus that closes today. Honoring The Macallan’s release of Edition No. 5, the brand partnered with Pantone Color Institute to create the Edition Purple collaboration, highlighting the natural color of whisky. There, visitors will discover the art and science behind whisky and color creation, as well as how the Pantone shade was inspired by the natural whisky making process. The experience is complete with a sample of the new Edition No. 5 and an accompanying snack.
