Jaquet Droz’s Latest Novelties Arrive in New York

On June 27 in New York City, watchmaker Jaquet Droz and brand CEO Christian Lattmann hosted an evening commemorating the release of its 2019 novelty timepieces. Guests made their way to the intimate boutique on 5th Avenue to experience the new watches first-hand while enjoying a selection of small bites, drinks, and cozy conversation.

A keen eye dedicated to detail and a passion for the craft of watchmaking is evident in each Jaquet Droz design. Materials like stainless steel, white and rose gold, mother of pearl, and handmade alligator leather are paired with age-old techniques—dating back to the 1700s—and a timeless aesthetic, in order to create limited-edition and even one-of-a-kind timepieces suitable for the most particular watch collector.

We saw sleek and stylish models fit for everyday and dress wear alike, including the classic Grande Seconde Dual time— so precise it only needs adjusting once every 200 years—and the understated Petite Heure Minute with its glimmering mother of pearl dial and the option to include a case inlayed with 160 sparkling diamonds.

For the wearer who prefers a slightly more contemporary feel, the monochrome dial and off-set hour and minute faces on the Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronographs is available in combinations of silver, brushed steel, white, and blue. The ceramic Grande Seconde Skelet-One watch is quite impressive, as well, which bears all its inner oscillating weights and gears for the wearer to see.

Finally, for those looking to impress with a simple flick of the wrist, designs like the Magic Lotus Automaton and the Tropical Bird Repeater are truly enchanting. With a self-winding mechanical movement, the Magic Lotus Automaton features an enamoring dial depicting a hand-painted and hand-engraved rotating koi pond, complete with lily pads and a lotus blossom that turns to reveal a yellow sapphire at its center, a briolette ruby, and a blue sapphire. And for the Tropical Bird Repeater, a simple hand-wound minute repeater movement is accompanied by a tropical forest scene abundant with wildlife in multiple color options including red gold with 180 baguette-cut diamonds, white gold with mother of pearl, and red gold with black onyx.
