Playing Through: Hermès Holiday Windows by Don Porcella

Last week in New York, Hermès unveiled its holiday window installation, “Playing Through; Another Trip Around the Sun” by artist Don Porcella just in time for post-Thanksgiving shopping.

The six windows of the flagship colorfully explore the house’s 2018 theme of “Let’s Play”. Porcella specifically drew on his memories as a kid of mini golf at Coney Island—each window imagined as a new hole complete with a fantastical version of perspective and portions. We see pin flags emblazoned with the iconic Hermès “H,” clubs held by animals and delightful creatures, chilly water hazards, and a Ferris wheel off in the distance.

His beloved action figures and building blocks are referenced in curious characters and figures in surprising shapes and materials. Young musicians with guitars and amps, and skateboards alongside deer in a forest scene, allude to a more teenage idea of fun. And what would a holiday window be without some classic winter sports – complete with mini skiers are a tiny slope and a couple penguins to boot!
