The Sagamore Hotel Miami Beach Presents “Urban Legends”

The Sagamore Hotel Miami Beach has long played a major role in Miami Art Week, those early days of December when the art world flocks to Miami for one of the biggest fairs of the year—Art Basel Miami Beach. In addition to hosting artists and art collectors alike over the years, the hotel has developed a critically acclaimed series, now dubbed #SagamoreIsArt. Last year, The Sagamore presented “Lingerie Françcaise,” curated by the French fashion historian Catherine Örmen, which was on view alongside “Femme Fatale,” a show of works by artists including Gilles Berquet, Lita Cabellut, Vincent Corpet, Mel Ramos, and Tom Wesselmann.

This year The Sagamore is presenting “Urban Legends.” Curated by the hotel’s art advisor, Sebastien Laboureau, it showcases the work of notable and emerging urban artists, such as Keith Haring, Banksy, Invader, Inkie, Desire Obtain Cherish, Shepard Fairey, L’Atlas, Bambi, Zeus, and Joe Lurato. For the lucky art collectors on-site, a few of the artworks will also be available for purchase. Open 2/47 to the public with complimentary admission from December 4 to January 4, 2018, the exhibition is also available for a private tour by Laboureau.

In the hotel’s large backyard space, “Urban Legends” is celebrated with Cave Man—a mural attributed to Banksy compliments of FAMM that presents an iconic visual painted in L.A. in 2008. For its unveiling, the hotel will host “The Sagamore Party” on December 6 for the public.

Urban art is recognized as a significant movement in recent art history, wherein art exists beyond the white box gallery and in the street. Socially relevant, and often politically and socially charged, “Urban Legends” makes a case for the value of the movement and the connections between artists and audience that are at its core, serving as a reflection of our contemporary society and ever-evolving culture.

A curated haven for the art crowd, in addition to its 93 suites, The Sagamore also boasts beachfront access, terraces, an expansive pool, its Canvas restaurant, a fitness center, and indoor and outdoor event spaces. And don’t forget—The Sagamore’s iconic “Saturday Brunch,” sponsored by BNY Mellon Wealth Management and Chubb Insurance, will continue December 9 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The invitation-only event is set to showcase an inspiring program of live music, art, and culture, including a performance by Nu Deco Ensemble. The feature presentation will also include an innovative and compelling site-specific chamber music experience that will invigorate The Sagamore’s art exhibits, events, and architecture, as well as a dance interlude by Miami City Ballet.
