Smelling Red: BYREDO’s 1996 Candle

No contributor

For Valentine’s Day, BYREDO is reinventing their 1996 scent as a collector’s edition candle. The scent was originally created in collaboration with Byredo’s Ben Gorham and acclaimed fashion photography duo Inez and Vinoodh, and released in 2013. As a symbol of enduring love, the new red-waxed candle is inspired by the couple’s photo Kirsten 1996. The iconic image shows a youthful model, innocent yet knowledgeable of the dark sense of beauty. The candle captures the passion behind the photograph and its creators, while also incorporating the warmth of their relationship. At its base, the candle is a mélange of warm scents such as patchouli, black amber, and vanilla, while the heart and top notes include violet, leather accord, Orris, Juniper berries, and black pepper.

The 1996 collectors candle launches this month on Barneys and from Byredo.com.
